  • Improves skin texture and skin tone
  • Great for men too

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skincare procedure that gently removes dead skin cells that dull up the skin. Our SILK Medspa patients receive microdermabrasion treatments to make their skin look younger by carefully polishing away surface irregularities.

This will help eradicate fine lines, discoloration and hyper pigmentation. It’s so quick and easy, you can have it during your lunch break. Plus, it doesn’t require any downtime.

Who doesn’t want fresher and healthier looking skin? Getting Microdermabrasion in Silk Medspa might be the answer for you. It’s a cosmetic procedure that works to exfoliate your skin and remove the dead skin cells on the epidermis or the skin’s outermost layer. The result is fresher and more radiant complexion.

We only have one goal at SILK Medspa and that’s to make you as beautiful as you can possibly be without changing who you are. We do this through excellent quality cosmetic services that are all non-invasive.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion treatment is a quick, non-invasive solution ideal for cleaning, refining and smoothing the skin surface, while stimulating healthy vital reactions in the deeper layers of the skin using micro massage. The microdermabrasion machine at Silk MedSpa can be adjusted to suit all types of skin from oily to dry, and can treat different skin thicknesses, giving it the ability to assist a variety of skin concerns including acne, congestion, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and dry, flaky skin. Depending on the area being treated, the process can take as little as twenty minutes to perform, with results being seen after just one session. Our experienced staff will guide you through the steps to making drastic improvements in skin conditions such as uneven textured skin, the appearance of scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, pore size, and superficial hyper-pigmentation, also known as age spots.

Microdermabrasion treatments can also encourage active skin products such as collagen and Vitamin C to work in double the time by allowing them to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin faster.

How does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, gentle process of removing layers of dead and damaged skin, revealing a smoother, fresher complexion. Performed by a hand-held wand that has an exfoliating diamond tip, the wand is passed over the skin two or three times (depending on the thickness of a patient’s skin), drawing in air which creates a vacuum when the wand touches the skin. As the exfoliating tip of the wand passes across the skin’s surface, it picks up dead surface skin cells along the way, unclogging pores, removing dry skin and refining the skin’s texture.

Microdermabrasion is safe for use for both men and women and can treat most skin types. It is not recommended for use on very sensitive skins or those suffering with rosacea, as it may aggravate the area. Microdermabrasion can also serve as a solution to acne on other areas of the body including back (also known as bacne), chest, neck, shoulders and upper arms.

Microdermabrasion is a virtually painless and completely safe procedure. Our clinicians will customise the treatment to your skin type, and because it’s not a harsh or deep process, it requires no downtime. Sessions can be scheduled at any time of the day so that you can return to your normal activities. Treatments are comfortable with a slight tingling sensation, not unlike mild sand paper rubbing against the skin. A slightly sun burnt sensation is experienced for a short time afterwards.

It is normal for the skin to be slightly red afterwards, and this can last up to a few hours. Mild shedding of the skin is common in the first few days of early treatments, but is uncommon once the skin is in better condition. Where acne pustules have been treated, the area may be red and small scabs may form, lasting for several days. It’s essential that you don’t pick any scabs, as this can cause scarring. After a few days, you will see a visible improvement with dull and stressed looking skin appearing smoother and fresher.

For best results it’s necessary to have multiple sessions over a period of time. For general rejuvenation, approximately six sessions are required. For problematic skin a course of six to twelve sessions is recommended. These are done every two to four weeks, and can take anywhere between ten to thirty minutes depending on the individual and the area being treated. As the skin is constantly renewing itself, we recommend that most clients return on a regular basis to keep their skin looking its best. Many clients return every one to three months. The frequency of treatments can be decided as a part of your treatment plan, which is designed during an initial complimentary consultation.
